Motor Trend’s Car of the Year for 1966 (the magazine called it the Car of the Decade as well) was the amazingly innovative FWD Oldsmobile Toronado.  The trophy the car earned was called the “golden calipers” and all you need to know to understand the importance of this vehicle to General Motors is to remove the ‘T’ from its name.  You’re left with ‘Oro’.  Pure gold.  Were it not for an old dreamcar called the Lincoln Futura laying dormant in George Barris’ garage, this Olds could have become the Batmobile.  Here’s our image of the Oronado leaving what could have been the Batcave in Gold Mountain.  Coulda fit Batman, Robin and even a criminal or two in the vehicle (flat floor you know).  Just 27 images will be offered, each with a signed, numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
