Not an insect. Cadillac seemed determined to compete in the 2-seat touring roadster category, first with the Allante (1987-1993), then with the XLR (2004-2009). Here’s the first try: Pininfarina (known for its Ferraris) designed and built Allante bodies in Italy, then airfreighted them to Michigan where the drivetrains were dropped in. European looks / American reliability. But the chassis was front-wheel-drive (not great for a sportscar), the top mechanism was cumbersome and troublesome, and there were occasional electrical gremlins as well. Few top execs, professionals or business owners looking for high-end personal transport thought of shopping in Cadillac stores for their Mercedes SLs or Jaguars. Result: a very pretty (and fun) sales failure. Get this image on photo paper, canvas, wood, metal or acrylic with a numbered, signed Certificate of Authenticity. Edition limited to 21 altogether in all media to assure its rarity.
