The 426 hemi was gone by 1972, but you could still order a 440 wedge in the amazingly sexy Charger SE body. If you wanted to get any serious power out of it though, you’d have to find a way to squeeze a six-pack out of the factory or dealer, and then start in on that new smog stuff the gummint had mandated. In the right light, the gold metallic looked a little bronzey, a little orangey … but not like the Hemi Orange paint that was still available. (Mopar kept the ‘Hemi’ paint option but not the engine.
