Oh well.  With a slight dip following the 2008 recession, SUVs as a percent of total vehicle sales have grown to dominate the market, outselling conventional cars by way more than 2 to 1.  They hold more stuff than their car counterparts, their ride height provides easier ingress and better visibility, and they're more profitable for manufacturers and dealers, but we don't care about that.  We like pretty, not utility.  How do you make a box pretty?  Round the corners a bit?  Add character lines to the sides?  Paint it in pretty colors?  Hyundai's trying, with the 2022 Tucson.  So's Ford, with the new Mustang Mach E.  But a box is still a box. The only bright spot on the horizon is the trend toward electrification, where batteries underly the entire vehicle and tiny motors replace the big internal combustion lump up front, allowing greater design flexibility.  But the vehicle is still a high box.  Thank car guys and gals for sportscars and exotics.  May they survive and prosper.
